Longleat Railway
Steam Days
Thrill to the sight and sound of a steam locomotive hard at work on the 15" gauge Longleat Railway. Subject to availability our steam locomotive will be "in steam" on Thursdays and Sundays between 11.30am and 4.00pm throughout the season.
The Diesel Trains will run Monday to Sunday inclusive until Sunday 31st October 2010 and at all times that the Steam Locomotive is not in operation (please see opening times for full opening details).

Longleat’s railway is a perfect scaled-down recreation
of the Age of Steam. Visitors arrive at a 1950’s style platform,
complete with period advertisements and other contemporary props,
to board their narrow gauge train.
With
everyone safely on board, and once the guard has blown his whistle
the journey begins, with the train taking visitors for a fascinating
ride through woods and into a tunnel as it heads towards Half Mile
Lake.
With its tracks running alongside the water, passengers get
a grandstand view both of the lake and its inhabitants including
Californian Sea Lions and Eastern White Pelicans.
You might be especially lucky and spot Nico the Lowland Gorilla living
on the island in the middle of the lake.
