Longleat Charity of the Year 2010

Southern Spinal Injuries TrustThe Southern Spinal Injuries Trust (SSIT) is a regional charity, set up to support the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre (DoCSTC) at Salisbury District Hospital and spinal cord injured people living in the South and South West of England.

SSIT raises money to provide extra equipment, over and above that provided by the NHS, for the patients cared for at the DoCSTC and also benefits people with spinal cord injuries by funding essential equipment which helps them lead an independent life.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, in 2009 we provided £37,000 worth of equipment for the DoCSTC and special equipment costing £57,000 for individuals.

SSIT has provided manual and powered wheelchairs for a number of people.
Here's what some of our beneficiaries have said:

“Thank you for enabling me to access terrains and activities that have been closed to me since my spinal cord injury.”

“Without the powered hand cycle I would rely on someone pushing me around, but now I can be totally independent. This really has changed my life.”

“This chair will be an immense help and will alleviate the terrible back pain that I have been suffering for many months.”

Jubilee Garden AppealJubilee Garden Appeal
In 2010, SSIT launched an appeal to provide funding for a specially designed rehabilitation garden at the DoCSTC. Suitably adapted for wheelchair access, the Jubilee Garden will encourage rehabilitation and wellbeing through gardening. It will also be an important social area outside the hospital environment for patients and their families. The Jubilee Garden Appeal needs to raise £100,000.

Please visit our website to find out more and help us to continue to support people with spinal cord injury.
